Fisheries Officer and Supervisor Exam Syllabus – Bihar SSC 2014

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Bihar will hold a written examination for recruitment to the posts of Matasya Prasar Paryavekshak (Supervisor post) and Matasya Prasar Padadhikari (Officer). The above mentioned posts are being filled by Animal and Fisheries Department.

Candidate’s Dilemma:

The competition level has got intense in the past few years. Candidates are often in a dilemma on the exact sequence of syllabus and this affects their preparations. Below are listed the examination pattern and duration so that the interested candidates can plan their strategy and prepare accordingly.

Examination Pattern:

  • The examination will be Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based.
  • The examination will last 2 hours and 15 minutes.
  • Question paper will be in English and Hindi medium.
  • Each correct answer will be given 4 marks.
  • 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The examination syllabus for Matasya Prasar Padadhikari position will be as:

1St Unit

Fishery resources and management, Fish Biology:

Taxonomical characteristic and classification of cultivable fisheries, moll and crustacean uses. Pond and freshwater ecosystem, fish stock and population dynamics, abundance methods and analysis. Management and conservation of fishery resources. Present status of fish resources in Bihar and production of fish and fish seeds. Anatomy of shell and fin fish.

2nd Unit

Aquaculture of Fish:

Breeding and reproductive behaviour is shellfishes, fecundity studies. Spawning method and seed production (induced), fish seed collection and rearing. Larval stage development in fin and shellfish. Preparing and managing brackish and fresh water fishponds. Identification of exotic fishes in India and developing various culture methods. Identification of fish disease and its control.

3rd Unit

Ecological identification of water bodies and environmental impact analysis of fish in lentic and lotic waters. Management of various biological parameters.

4th Unit

Pre and Post Harvest Technology:

Identification of boat building material, general method of fish preservation and canning technology.

5th Unit

Economics and Extension:

Managing training and educational needs in fisheries. Identification of modern tools in fishery extension education.

1st Unit

Taxonomy and identification of cultivable fisheries. Fisheries resources in Bihar and its status.

2nd Unit

Breeding behaviour in fish and shellfish. Preparation and management of fishponds. Culture methods in fishes in India.

3rd Unit

Biological productivity and its impact on fisheries. Aquatic pollution and its control.

4th Unit

Fish Preservation methods and by-products in fisheries.

5th Unit

Fish economy, demand and supply and profit maximization.
